Northeast Region: Coastal Maine Composite SAV Data Set 1993-1997

This project was initiated by the State of Maine Department of Marine Resources in response to a need to assess the risk to coastal habitat from oil spills.

The geographic extent of the study area is the entire coast of Maine. The Maine SAV data have been used in preparing plans for oil spill response and are being used in Casco Bay to manage mussel harvesting. This allows the state to permit these activities with minimal impact on essential fish habitat.

The Center's role in this project included funding for aerial photography acquisition, technical assistance, and field validation.
