Land Cover Analysis

Honolulu County Land Cover

Project Data

Description

Honolulu County contains the island of Oahu which is the third largest and most populated of the Hawaiian Islands with 876,151 residents (2000 Census). Oahu contains a diverse distribution of coastal land cover types which can be identified from space. By using remote sensing technology, we can quantify the land cover features on the island and establish a baseline for monitoring changes.

High Resolution Land Cover data, circa 2005, was produced for Honolulu County using 2.4 meter Quickbird satellite imagery. Land cover and land cover change data prior to 2005 were produced using 30 meter resolution Landsat Thematic Mapper and Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper satellite imagery.
