Discovery Services and Inventories

Discovery services provide a mechanism to help search for and retrieve data and services. These are usually built from a combination of metadata records, controlled vocabularies, common catalog protocols and interfaces for users. The Geospatial One-Stop, Global Change Maser Directory and OBIS are the "standard" discovery options available to all IOOS data providers. A successful search of a clearinghouse relies on providers submitting quality records. Since these are not always available, a brief list of notable data sources has been provided in the Regional Directory.
