HAB Forecast System Disclaimer

Nature of HAB Forecast System Products

The Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Forecast System has been created by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Ocean Service (NOS) to provide information on the location, extent, and potential for development or movement of HABs (also known as red tides) in the Gulf of Mexico. The HAB monitoring and forecast information is provided directly to state and local managers to help guide Florida 's HAB monitoring and response efforts. The NOAA efforts involve close collaboration with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Mote Marine Lab, and NOAA's Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. HAB conditions are provided to the public via a Web site (/crs/habf/) twice a week when HABs are occurring. Please see frequently asked questions for more information on the forecasting system methods.
